- Head Coach Jones praises player's "trust and discipline"
- 66-41 aggregate victory over Cornish Pirates seals memorable season
Lyn Jones has heaped praise on his squad’s "positive" rugby after their RFU Championship Final victory at the Kassam Stadium on Wednesday night.
Jones was mobbed by his players after the final whistle and says the transformation from the side which finished fourth in the league stage to the side that were crowned Championship champions has been "unbelievable."
Speaking to Sky Sports HD, Jones said: “We finished fourth in the league and tried to bring our game forward by being positive.
“We’d decided that if we were going to lose tonight, we were going to lose being positive.
“Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn’t, but a positive mistake is better than a negative mistake.”
Going from finishing fourth to winning is unbelievable - Jones
Welsh went into the second leg 16 points ahead, but were made to suffer some nervy moments before half time, going into the break 13-6 down.
However, a try from centre Hudson Tonga’uiha after 69 minutes secured the win and sent 3,000 Welsh fans in to raptures.
Jones added: “I’m absolutely delighted, for [the players] more than anything. The way they’ve improved and applied themselves; we weren’t in great shape, but we’ve improved the individual skill and brought a level of discipline and trust with each other in attack and defence.
“We’ve just grown. Since February the momentum has built and from finishing fourth to winning it is unbelievable.”
