England Women's head coach Gary Street says that getting tactical input from players ahead of big international fixtures is becoming crucial to his side’s success.

Street has developed a culture within the squad in which players are encouraged to put forward their strategic ideas and work in conjunction with coaches when developing game plans and tactics.

England Women recently beat France 23-13 and will take on New Zealand in the first of three tests later this week.

“We have section leaders within the squad who go away after matches and analyse footage to come up with their own ideas,” said Street. “The players give ideas to myself and Graham (Smith) and we merge them with ours to create an overall game plan that we all believe will work well and be successful."

“As a coach it’s a challenge to get players to believe they know enough about the game and by doing this we are getting them into a good place mentally and creating a strong message within the team.”
