Stuart Lancaster has made four changes up front with Alex Corbisiero replacing the injured Joe Marler, Joe Launchbury getting his first start in the second row, while Tom Wood and Ben Morgan join captain Chris Robshaw in the loose forwards.

For Northampton back row Wood, it concludes a long period waiting on the side-lines and two matches waiting on the bench.

“We’re still upbeat despite the defeat,” he said. “We’re a defiant group and we accept that it was a game we could have won. This week we want to do to South Africa what Australia did to us.

“A week’s a long time in rugby, we know what to expect from South Africa and we’re very much looking forward to it.”
