- Past winners Hinckley exit National Colts Cup
- Market Harborough beat previous finalists Old Northamptonians
Market Harborough’s reward for beating past finalists Old Northamptonians in the National Colts Cup is a trip to Paviors in the third round.
Old Northamptonians were beaten by Bishop’s Stortford in the 2006 final but their hopes of making it through to the final again ended with a 34-10 defeat at Market Harborough in this season’s second round.
Hinckley, who won the competition in 2009, are also out. They withdrew from their second round home tie against Leighton Buzzard who were given a walkover and home third round tie against Derby.
The National Colts Cup was introduced for the 1997/98 season as part of the East Midlands RU’s Centenary celebrations. The competition is still organised and administered by East Midlands.
A Plate competition for sides beaten in rounds one to three of the Cup was introduced for the 1999/2000 season. This season the cup, which has traditionally been for club Under-19 sides, has become an Under-18 competition.
Bedford Blues, who won the National Colts Cup in five of the last six seasons, have not entered this season’s competition.
