National Colts Cup draw

25 September 2012

  • Home tie against Leighton Buzzard for past winners Hinckley
  • Old Northamptonians face Market Harborough trip

Hinckley, past winners of the National Colts Cup, will host Leighton Buzzard in this season’s second round.

Hinckley beat Old Albanians 22-5 in the 2009 final and their win interrupted a sequence of five titles in six seasons for Bedford Blues.

But Bedford have decided not to enter this season’s National Colts Cup, which is now a competition for club Under 18 sides having been an Under 19 tournament since its inception in 1997.

Old Northamptonians, who were beaten finalists in 2006, progressed to the second round with a walkover against Ampthill. They will now travel to Market Harborough in the second round, a tie that is scheduled to be played on or before October 14.

The National Colts Cup was introduced in the 1997/98 as part of the East Midlands RU’s centenary celebrations.

The competition, which is still organised by East Midlands, has continued to grow in strength and popularity.

Moseley won the inaugural competition and were beaten by Harlequins in the 2006 final. Worcester, runners-up in 2003, and Nuneaton, who were beaten Bedford in 2008 final, are the other Midlands clubs to have reached the final.
