- Westcliff next for Wanderers
- Luctonians face Wellingborugh for place in semis
Worcester Wanderers will have home advantage against Westcliff from Essex in the semi-finals of this season’s National Colts Cup on April 14.
Worcester, who won the National Colts Plate seven years ago, beat Billingham 30-12 in their quarter-final while Westcliff defeated Ivybridge, last season’s beaten Cup finalists, 30-15.
The quarter-final between Luctonians and Wellingborough has been put back to April 6. The winners will be at home to either Bishops Stortford or Winchester in the semi-finals on April 21.
In the National Colts Plate Nuneaton are the sole surviving club following Old Northamptonians’s 48-7 defeat at Halifax-based Heath in the quarter-finals.
Nuneaton are due to play their home quarter-final against Doncaster on April 6 with the winners travelling to play either Woodford or Chippenham in the semi-finals which are scheduled to be played on or before April 21.
The National Colts Cup was introduced in the 1997/98 season as part of the East Midlands RU’s Centenary celebrations. The Plate was introduced two years later for sides beaten in the first three rounds of the cup competition.
Both competitions are still organised by the East Midlands RU and have continued to grow in strength and popularity.
Until this season both competitions were for club Under 19 teams but are now contested at Under 18 level.
