England will play three matches on their tour to Argentina and Uruguay this summer.

Stuart Lancaster’s side will face a CONSUR XV representing the South American nations in Montevideo, Uruguay, on Sunday, June 2 (3.30pm local time, 7.30pm BST).

Then they meet Argentina for Test matches on back-to-back Saturdays, first in Salta on June 8 and then at Velez Sarsfield in Buenos Aires on June 15 (4.10pm local time, 8.10pm BST).

The sides met in one-off Tests in 2002 and 2009 but this is the first two-Test series between the nations in Argentina since England toured there in 1997.

With a number of England’s Elite Player expected to be named in Warren Gatland’s British and Irish Lions squad to travel to Australia on April 30, England will name their tour squad of approximately 30 players in early May before facing the Barbarians at Twickenham Stadium on May 26 (1pm).

Head Coach Lancaster said: “Argentina is a formidable rugby nation and we’re looking forward to facing the Pumas in back-to-back Tests, which a young and developing side will need to be at its very best to win.

“Together with matches against the Barbarians at Twickenham and the CONSUR team in Uruguay, the summer programme gives this group a real opportunity to measure their progress and continue to learn what they need to succeed at the highest level.”

With England Forwards Coach Graham Rowntree and Backs Coach Andy Farrell also on Lions duty this summer, Exeter Chiefs Director of Rugby Rob Baxter and Saracens Coach Paul Gustard will join Lancaster's coaching team for the duration of the tour.

England last played Argentina at Rugby World Cup 2011 in New Zealand, when a second-half try from replacement scrum half Ben Youngs clinched a nervy 13-9 victory in Dunedin.

Los Pumas defeated an England team containing Danny Care, Dylan Hartley and Chris Robshaw – on debut – when the sides last met in South America, with Exeter Chiefs wing Gonzalo Camacho scoring a try in 24-22 victory in 2009.
