England Head Coach Stuart Lancaster has given his support to the second S12 Shropshire Coaching Conference which will take place at Harper Adams University College near Newport on September 22.
The Conference will include presentations from Steve Grainger, the RFU Rugby Development Director, and Gary Townsend, the RFU Player Development Manager during a busy programme of workshops and sessions aimed at inspiring and improving coaches in Shropshire.
“Everyone attending the S12 Shropshire Coaching Conference has a vital role to play in inspiring young players to enjoy their rugby,” Lancaster wrote in a letter to the conference organisers.
“Better coaches make better players and it’s great to see the likes of Graham Kitchener benefiting from the values and skills instilled at an early age in the county before going on to make their mark at a professional and international level.
“But most importantly, better coaches can inspire young people to continue playing the game and that ensures thriving clubs and communities.”
Grainger will launch the all-day conference with a speech about Legacy and the 2015 Rugby World Cup and Townsend will run a session on the New Rules of Play for Under 9s and Under 10s.
Other sessions will include passing and handling, defence, decision making with the ball in hand and the breakdown.
The cost of the conference is £20 per coach and cheques should be made payable to SRDG. Applications and further information are available from: Rae Evans, 28 Porthill Drive, Shrewsbury, Shropshire SY3 8RS.
