  • More than 1,300 local sports projects have benefited from Inspired Facilities funding

Solihull club Old Yardleians have secured £48,500 of Olympic legacy funding from Sport England's Inspired Facilities fund.

The money will be used to extend and refurbish the kitchen at the club’s Tilehouse Lane headquarters and also to renovate the main bath and shower area.

Sport England have revealed that more than 1,300 local sports projects across the country have now received National Lottery funding through Inspired Facilities, part of its Olympic and Paralympics legacy programme.

Old Yardleians chairman, Steve Sidwell, said: “We are grateful and, obviously, delighted to receive this award from Sport England.

“Although Old Yardleians is primarily a rugby club, we also partner up to Solihull Archers, Birmingham Bears Aussie Rules Football team, The Hash House Harriers running club and The Wing Jobs football club.

“This funding for refurbishing our kitchen and bathing facilities will further enable us to encourage community sport and social activities by involving local people of all ages and gender in our club.”

Old Yardleians are one of more than 300 projects across England receiving lottery investment from the fourth round of the Inspired Facilities fund and one of more than 1,300 to benefit overall.

Sport England's chairman Nick Bittel said: “A year on from the Olympics, this National Lottery investment is helping us deliver a lasting sporting legacy in Solihull.

“With investment now on offer from our Inspired Facilities Fund until 2017, we look forward to supporting many more sports clubs in the West Midlands who play such a vital role in grassroots sport.”

Many more communities are now set to benefit from the popular fund, after Sport England announced that it was extending Inspired Facilities until 2017, with an additional £40 million of National Lottery funding to invest.

Bids will be accepted for the next round of Inspired Facilities funding from 21st October 2013. Further information is available at www.sportengland.org/inspiredfacilities.
