International rugby will be coming to the North East in the New Year when Darlington’s Northern Echo Arena stages the England Counties XV’s home match against Ireland Clubs XV on Friday, February 21, 2014 (7.30pm).
The stadium is the new home ground of Darlington Mowden Park, the ambitious National Two North club, and boasts a capacity of 25,000.
The England Counties XV is the representative flagship of the community game in England and the squad to face Ireland Clubs, which follows a match against France Federale XV at Nevers on January 31, will be selected from clubs in the English National Leagues.
“We are delighted to welcome both teams to our new home, The Northern Echo Arena,” said Darlington Mowden Park chairman Mike Keeligan.
“The England Counties fixtures have been something that a growing number of people are following, it’s a fantastic proposition for the players and it’s fantastic that the North East will get to host both these international sides on the eve of the RBS 6 Nations match at Twickenham Stadium.
“We’re very much trying to open up the Arena to wider rugby circles and the sporting community in general and I hope that people enjoy the opportunity to see this level of sport and the occasion.”
Ticket prices are £5 for adults if pre-booked or £7 on the day. Under 16s go free. Tickets can be booked through the Arena main reception on 01325 350267.
Darlington Mowden Park are also offering a pre-match curry with a ground admission ticket for £10, which must be booked in advance.
Corporate hospitality packages of £200 for ten, which includes a buffet, waitress service and match programme can also be booked.
