- Mixed session at Castle Park launches programme
- Thornensians booked to host finale
Ever popular sevens rugby is back on the South Yorkshire agenda again this summer with a series of four qualifying competitions leading to a final at Thornensians RFC on Sunday, July 7.
While all the venues are located at South Yorkshire clubs, entries will be accepted from outside the district, the only requirement being a maximum of 12 players in a squad, all eligible for adult rugby, and payment of a £15 entry fee.
Entries will be capped at 20 for men and 10 for women for each qualifying competition, with no entry cap from an individual club and inclusion being on a ‘first-come, first-served’ basis.
The programme gets underway on Saturday, May 11 at Doncaster RFC, which will cater for men’s and women’s teams, before continuing at Sheffield Tigers RFC (May 25), Barnsley RFC (June 8) and Dinnington RFC (June 22), the latter three events being for men only.
Finals day at Thornensians RFC will be by invitation only and will comprise the four semi-finalists from each qualifying event. If this system creates duplication, the field will be completed by a draw.
