Divisional programme news

  • Second Divisional win for Midlands
  • Elliott praises Midlands work ethic

Midlands Under 18s completed a successful Divisional programme with a 25-13 win over the North at Rugby Lions' Webb Ellis Road headquarters this afternoon.

Two penalties from replacement fly half Ben Penfold (Hartpury College, Ampthill and East Midlands) helped to turn an evenly-contested match in favour of the Midlands after the scores were level 7-7 at half-time.

Full back Aaron Morris (Biddenham School, Bedford Blues and East Midlands) scored a spectacular first half try after he intercepted close to the Midlands line and went almost the length of the pitch. Cameron Lee-Everton (Moulton College, Northampton Saints and East Midlands) added the conversion.

Penfold, who replaced the injured Lee-Everton, nudged the Midlands in front in the third quarter but it required some tenacious defence to frustrate the North.

Two tries in the last ten minutes, the first from centre Lewis Jones (Moulton College, Northampton Saints and East Midlands) and the second from flanker Ryan Brett-Williams (Bedford School, Northampton Saints and East Midlands) secured a second successive win.

"This is the first time for many years that Midlands can say that they have won both Divisional Matches and I and the Midlands team are very pleased with the work ethic and effort that the players have put in to achieve these two results," said Martin Elliott, chairman of Midlands Under 18s.
