Ahead of their trip to Portugal next week, England Students, and their new look back room staff, have announced the squad tasked with beating their Portuguese counterparts.

Wayne Thompson who will continue his professional playing involvement with Bristol Rugby, completes the coaching and management team as Forwards Coach. Commenting on this year's England Students campaign, James Farndon said: "The Portugal fixture presents an excellent opportunity for these players selected to compete against a full IRB National team. Our focus throughout the trials and training period has been for players and staff to maximise the opportunity open to them, thereby being able to unlock individual and collective potential as a result."

The coaching staff have been very impressed with the way that members of the squad have applied themselves to all that has been asked of them. This ability will stand the players in good stead for this year's campaign. The squad selected represents many Universities and will be captained by Josh Beaumont of Durham, son of former England captain Bill.

Farndon added: "In Josh, we have selected a captain who leads by example, is on form and can be relied upon when playing under pressure. He played very well for England Students last year during a challenging campaign and the coaching and medical staff look forward to working with him in this important leadership role.

"We're sure he will do a very good job in getting the best out of this year's talented squad. He has captained Durham University very well this year and his recent selection to play for Sale against Montpelier in the Heineken Cup is testament to him as an individual."
