Nuneaton’s Llyr Griffiths has been included in the British Police squad for the Rugby Sevens event at next month’s World Police and Fire Service Games in Belfast.
Griffiths, who can play in the second or back rows of the pack, is a serving officer in the Nottinghamshire Police force and has already represented British Police in 15-a-side matches.
He will be one of five English players in the 12-strong squad for the sevens tournament, which will be played between August 7 and 9.
The World Police and Fire Service Games, which is a biennial event, will take place between August 1 and 10.
The event is for serving and retired police, fire, prison and border security officers and is the third largest international multi-sport event in the world.
This year there will be 56 sports held at 41 venues across Northern Ireland involving around 7,000 competitors from more than 60 countries.
