The Wooden Spoon Charity, which supports disadvantaged children, received another important funding boost from the corporate sector in Leeds recently when accountants Ernst & Young hosted their annual Touch Rugby Tournament at Moortown RUFC.
Eighteen teams competed to become Spoon Champions and be presented with the much sought after trophy of.... a Wooden Spoon.
Property consultants DTZ ran out eventual winners after a thrilling final against accountants PWC, with the sides so evenly balanced that it was necessary to remove players during the game in order to create more space for tries to be scored.
The event was extremely well supported with around 200 people in attendance on the night and funds of £4,500 being generated for the Wooden Spoon charity.
Firms supporting the event this year were: PWC, Eversheds, Deloitte, KPMG, Morrisons, Pace plc, DLA Piper, Grant Thornton, DAC Beachcroft, Michael Page, DWF, Baker Tilly, Simpson Millar, Walker Morris, Fox Lloyd Jones and DTZ.
“We owe a big vote of thanks to the Yorkshire Society Referees, who gave up their evenings to support the event, and to the RFU Rugby Development Officers from the RFU, who helped make the event so successful,” said Tom Harvey from the organisers.
