- Newport to stage second fundraiser for local hospital
- Proceeds of previous efforts stolen
Shropshire club Newport will make a second attempt to raise funds for the Princess Royal Hospital in Telford on Saturday, May 11 after a sneak thief stole the money generated from a Ladies' Lunch last month.
Newport raised around £1,900 from the original fundraiser, which was intended to go to the children’s ward at the hospital.
But the money was taken from behind the bar and, although police have investigated the theft, it is unlikely the cash will be recovered.
So Newport have decided to hold a second fundraiser, this time at the National Three Midlands club’s annual players' dinner this weekend.
Auction prizes, including a signed England shirt from the RFU, a signed Leicester Tigers shirt, a signed shirt and ball from London Irish, signed match balls from Harlequins and Gloucester and two tickets for the Aviva Premiership final donated by Premier Rugby Limited have been donated in an attempt to ensure that the Princess Royal Hospital does not miss out.
