Lions trio Christian Wade, Alex Corbisiero and Geoff Parling are among an extended group of 27 players named by Stuart Lancaster to prepare for Saturday’s QBE International against Argentina at Twickenham Stadium.

Wade, 22, scorched to two sparkling tries for London Wasps last weekend and will be looking to force his way into the match-day 23 to add to the Test cap he won against Los Pumas this June.

Leicester Tigers lock Parling has completed the graduated return to play from concussion protocol without complication after taking bang to the head last Tuesday and replaces Bath Rugby’s Dave Attwood.

And third Test try-scorer in Sydney Corbisiero has recovered from a knee injury to replace fellow Lions loosehead Mako Vunipola, who is out of the game with a minor medial ligament strain to his knee.

Bath Rugby’s Rob Webber will also remain with the squad on stand-by for Leicester Tigers hooker Tom Youngs, whose wife expecting their first child.

Head Coach Lancaster has named the expanded squad to allow time for one or two minor injuries to settle down before naming his team to face Argentina at 10.45am on Thursday, as he explained.

“There are a couple of changes to the matchday squad with Geoff and Alex back and it’s great they are back in the mix. Mako is unfortunately struggling with a minor ligament strain to his knee and is not available for selection this week.

“We have named an extended squad as we need a further 24 hours to assess one or two minor niggles in the build-up to team announcement on Thursday morning.

“We have thoroughly reviewed the Australia game and we are determined to build on the momentum that victory has given us. Training today has been very intense and there is a massive competition because everyone is desperate to be in the team.”
