Having opened their account for the season in Round 1 of the LV= Cup, Worcester Warriors will look to back up their 21-16 win over Cardiff Blues with victory over Leicester Tigers in the second round of the LV= Cup at Sixways on Friday evening. Tigers won 32-15 when the sides met on the opening weekend of the current Aviva Premiership season. In eight seasons of Anglo-Welsh Cup rugby, Worcester and Leicester have met twice before with the Tigers winning comfortably on each occasion. Leicester go into the match on top of Pool 2, while Worcester are second to Bath in Pool 3.

Also on Friday night, three former champions are in action as 2008 winners Ospreys play Cardiff Blues, who took their crown a year later, and current holders Harlequins host Sale Sharks. Ospreys have beaten Blues 14 of the 22 times they have played each other since regional rugby was introduced and are on a six-game unbeaten streak against their Welsh rivals. The last Blues success came on the final day of 2010, when they won 27-25 in the Celtic League.

Defending champions Harlequins slipped to an opening round defeat at Exeter and need to beat the Sharks, in what is a repeat of last year’s final, to keep alive their hopes of retaining the trophy. Sharks lost to a try in the final play of the game against Bath.

Chiefs set sights on first Bath win since promotion

The remaining Pool 2 v Pool 3 fixture has a Sunday afternoon kick-off as Bath, who had Dave Attwood to thank for their last-gasp win at the AJ Bell Stadium, take on Exeter at The Rec on Sunday lunchtime. The Chiefs have still to beat Bath in any form of competition since they were promoted to the Premiership.

Saracens claimed top spot in Pool 1 following a bonus-point win at London Wasps in their opening game. They now take on Scarlets, who lie third in Pool 4. In Anglo-Welsh competition the head-to-head record stands at one win apiece, with Saracens winning 34-7 at Parc y Scarlets the last time the sides met on January 29, 2011.

Pool 4 pacesetters Northampton Saints kicked off their bid for LV= Cup silverware in style with a convincing 33-6 win over Gloucester. This weekend Saints travel to another Premiership rival in London Irish. Irish are looking for their first points of the campaign after leaving Newcastle empty-handed. Saints won 19-14 when the sides met in the Premiership at the Madejski Stadium a fortnight ago and are on a four-game winning run in all competitions.

Former champions Gloucester will look to bounce back from their beating at the hands of Northampton with victory over Newcastle in what is a re-enactment of the 2011 final. Gloucester lie bottom of Pool 1 while Newcastle are second in Pool 4 following their 29-21 win over Irish.

The remaining match of round two pits together Newport Gwent Dragons and London Wasps. Dragons slipped to their fourth defeat in a row in going down 21-13 to Scarlets in round one, but they have only lost once at Rodney Parade all season. Dragons recorded a famous 30-29 victory at Adams Park when the sides last met in the LV= Cup two seasons ago.
