The bottom two teams square up at St Peter on Saturday when Jersey take on Ealing Trailfinders in the 10th round of the Greene King IPA Championship. When the sides last met in the 2011/12 National League One campaign, Ealing stormed Jersey’s home “fortress” to win 26-15, and, in doing so, became the first side to win on the island for two-and-a-half years.

A repeat of that result would be most welcome on Ealing’s return to the Jersey capital, as they go there without a win or a point to their name after nine straight losses.

While both Jersey and Ealing Trailfinders have struggled following their recent promotions to the Championship, London Scottish, who returned to this level two years ago, continue to go from strength-to-strength. The Exiles’ 36-10 win at Ealing was their third on the spin and took them into the top four.

Saturday’s opponents Moseley are in good form, though. The Birmingham outfit were far from disgraced in a 24-8 home reverse to London Welsh and had won all three games prior to that clash against the league leaders. Moseley won 41-37 at The Athletic Ground in the British & Irish Cup last season, but Scottish then exacted revenge with a 25-20 victory in the corresponding league fixture.

Bedford Blues and London Welsh also go head-to-head on Saturday afternoon. These great rivals last met in the 2011/12 Championship semi-finals, with champions-elect Welsh winning 13-3 in the Goldington Road leg of the tie.

Tight affair expected at Meadow Lane

Sunday’s game between Nottingham and Cornish Pirates should be a tight affair if last season’s two games are anything to go by. Pirates won 11-10 at the Mennaye Field and Nottingham edged the return match, 28-26 – their first win in 10 attempts against the Pirates.

On the same day two former Premiership heavyweights collide as Bristol entertain Leeds Carnegie at the Memorial Stadium (Live on Sky Sports 2 and Sky Sports 2 HD). Four penalty goals from Adrian Jarvis, a former Leeds player, helped Bristol to a 12-9 win in last season’s fixture. Leeds are looking for their first win at the Memorial Stadium since a 17-12 success there in the 2002/03 Premiership campaign.

Round 10 gets underway with another Friday night game at Brickfields as Plymouth Albion entertain Rotherham Titans. Albion lost for the third time at home in the league last Friday, having let a 10-point lead slip against Bedford, who came away from Brickfields with a morale-boosting 27-16 win. Rotherham’s only other experience of Friday night rugby this season resulted in a one-point win at London Scottish. The Titans have not won at Brickfields in the league since a 33-20 success on February 21, 2009.
