  • Lichfield to face Hereford in Midlands derby

Four Midlands clubs have been given byes to the fifth round of the National Colts Cup.

Lutterworth, Market Bosworth, Burton and Old Northamptonians emerged as qualifiers from their respective Midlands sections of the draw and have now joined with the four qualifiers from the North for the fourth round.

They have all been awarded a bye to the next round while Luctonians will travel to Old Brodleians, Bedford Athletic will host Huddersfield and Lichfield will take on Hereford in an all-Midlands fourth round tie.

Old Northamptonians are previous finalists in the competition having lost 32-6 to Bishop’s Stortford in 2006. They were also beaten by Richmond in the National Colts Plate final in 2010.

The National Colts Cup was introduced for the 1997/98 season as part of the East Midlands RU’s centenary celebrations.

The Plate, a competition for sides beaten in rounds one to three of the Cup, was introduced in 1999/2000.

The competition was originally contested by Under 19 teams from clubs across the country but has now been changed to an Under 18 tournament.
