Melbourne have become the latest Derbyshire club to be awarded the RFU Club Accreditation.

The club has worked closely with Matt Jefferson, the RFU Rugby Development for Derbyshire, Pete Shaw, the RFU Area Facilities Manager, and other RFU staff in the area.

Melbourne now have a multi-sport facility for rugby, football and cricket and have recently launched a Colts XV, which supplements the successful mini and junior section at the club.

The RFU Club Accreditation scheme aims to help all rugby clubs in England become stronger, more effective, more efficient and more enjoyable places to play rugby.

Accreditation earns advantages like the Sport England Clubmark recognising the excellence of the vibrant mini and youth section, together with increased status and credibility which the award generates with local authorities, educational establishments and potential sponsors.

“Gaining the RFU Club Accreditation has confirmed our commitment to the development of rugby at Melbourne RFC. We like to think that Melbourne RFC is a respected club where enjoyment is valued. Everyone is welcome to take part,” said Pete Ilott, Melbourne chairman.

“The club is dependent on a small but totally dedicated team of volunteers. Many take on more than one role and devote a considerable amount of time to provide a well-organised and structured experience.

“The club has worked very hard for the Club Accreditation and set some really strong goals for the coming year.”

Jefferson, who has worked closely with Melbourne, said: “Embarking on a large scale, multi-sport facility development is always a challenge but the club have a great group of dedicated volunteers who have engaged well with RFU Community Rugby Coaches, the Area Facilities Manager and myself and are working hard to ensure that the needs of their players and volunteers are met whilst in transition from one site to another.

“The Club Accreditation has been a powerful tool to allow them to check where they currently are and plan effectively for the coming year. Both the Community Rugby Coaches and I are really looking forward to helping Melbourne get stuck into achieving their goals and seeing the club grow and provide more opportunities for more people to be involved in our great sport.”
