This September, the rugby party heads North in the form of the Manchester European Sevens tournament.
Taking place over the weekend of September 13 and 14, the tournament will see 12 teams take to AJ Bell Stadium, Salford for two days of back-to-back rugby.
The third leg of the FIRA-AER (International Federation of Rugby Association) Grand Prix 7s Series in Manchester follows earlier rounds in Lyon and Moscow, before the tournament concludes in Bucharest on September 20 and 21. Renowned for bringing a carnival atmosphere to venues, most noticeably seen in the Marriott London Sevens, the seven-a-side game provides the ideal opportunity for the whole family to enjoy some first-class sport, and for as little as £10 per person.
As well as watching England play on home soil, ticket holders will see home nations Wales and Scotland travel to Manchester for the tournament, hosted by the Rugby Football Union (RFU), as well as Belgium, France, Georgia, Germany, Italy, Portugal, Romania, Russia, and Spain.
Sevens increased significantly in popularity – Goldschmidt
Commenting on the announcement, RFU Chief Commercial Officer Sophie Goldschmidt said: “The Manchester European Sevens offers us the opportunity to stage another weekend of high-paced rugby action, this time in the North of England which will help to further develop the sport in the area.
“Sevens rugby has increased significantly in popularity over the past five years, with last year’s Marriott London Sevens attracting over 113,000 spectators to Twickenham, including a world-record attendance on the Saturday.”

Octavian Morariu, FIRA-AER President, added: “FIRA-AER welcomes the RFU’s hosting of the Manchester 7s leg of the 2014 Grand Prix Series, which shows a strong commitment to the development of rugby in Europe, as well as towards the 47 other nations which make up our regional association. We have no doubt that this tournament will be a great success.”
