- Warwickshire looking to advance from Pool Two
- Bonus-point victory over Oxford University keeps them in the reckoning
Warwickshire improved their chances of reaching the National Under 20 Shield quarter-finals with a 31-3 win over Oxford University at Jesus College on Sunday (January 26).
Warwickshire now need to wait for the outcome of the postponed Oxfordshire v Oxford University match to discover whether they have done enough to progress from Pool Two.
There were just four points between the sides at half-time but Warwickshire pulled clear in the second half with a brace of tries from Barkers’ Butts wing Alex Robinson helping them to secure an important bonus point.
Warwickshire, who trounced Somerset last week, had to work hard to establish their victory platform with Barkers’ Butts centre Alex Graham crossing for their first half try, which fly half Dale Glover (Kenilworth) improved.
A penalty from the students reduced the deficit but Robinson crossed for his first try early in the second period and Broadstreet flanker Alex Beddows went over ten minutes later with Glover adding the extras.
Robinson’s second try midway through the second half secured the bonus point and Glover again converted before prop Josh McNulty (Broadstreet) put the seal on victory with Warwickshire’s fifth try.
