FEATURE – Maro Itoje: Don't Call Me Junior

13 June 2014

  • Maro Itoje gives an insight about his rugby journey
  • We just need to perform as well as we can – Itoje

With England Under 20s looking to progress in the IRB Junior World Championship in Sunday's semi-final against Ireland, lock Maro Itoje is hoping to follow in the footsteps of JWC graduates Owen Farrell and Joe Launchbury, to name two, into the Senior set up.

Itoje, who stands at 6'5'', says: "I enjoy the physical games, it gives you an opportunity to express yourself. We have a physical pack and we're looking forward to the challenges that come our way.

"As it stands, as a group, we've not achieved anything - this side didn't win the JWC, it was last year's group. We have played well, but there's a long way to go, and we feel we can shape our own destiny."

"I'd be lying if said that one day I didn't want to play for England, to wear the Senior red rose would be so special."
