Bristol Rugby have beaten off interest from a number of high-profile clubs to capture Wales international Ryan Jones, while fellow Championship outfit Bedford Blues confirm a quartet of new deals.

A significant statement of intent by the club, the British & Irish Lion and record-breaking former Welsh skipper is set to join following the conclusion of the Ospreys’ campaign.

Jones – who has won 75 caps for Wales, winning three Grand Slams in the process – agrees a two-year deal.

The versatile 33-year-old can play no. 8, blindside flanker and second row and has made 147 appearances for Ospreys since his debut in 2004.

“Ryan’s arrival indicates the ambition that Bristol Rugby has and the quality of players we are capable of attracting,” Director of Rugby Andy Robinson told

“To captain your country a record number of times and to play for the British & Irish Lions is no mean feat – what Ryan has achieved in his career so far is remarkable.

I’m delighted to be joining Bristol Rugby - Jones

An IRB International Player of the Year nominee in 2008, Jones made three appearances for the British & Irish Lions in 2005.

He added: “I’m delighted to be joining Bristol Rugby. I’ll be looking to use my experience to help the team and contribute to the success of the club.
