30 March 2014

  • Midlands interest ends with East Midlands defeat
  • Depleted side no match for powerful Yorkshire

Midlands interest in this season’s National Under 20 Championship ended with a 57-5 defeat for a depleted East Midlands at the hands of a powerful Yorkshire outfit in this afternoon’s quarter-final at Doncaster’s Castle Park.

East Midlands had 20 of their first-choice players unavailable for the trip north and had only 19 players available to select from on the day, six of whom were debutants.

They did well to restrict Yorkshire to a 24-5 lead at half-time with Luton full back Brandon Lewsey crossing for the East Midlands try after 24 minutes.

Yorkshire ran in four tries in the first half and added five more in the second period to book their passage to the semi-finals.
