Scrum Down This Summer
YOU don’t have to wait for the sun, sea and sand at O2 Scrum on the Beach to be bitten by the rugby bug – the RFU’s Play On campaign aims to keep you connected with the game all year round.
In 2010 the Play On campaign will get involved in one of the biggest organised rugby tournaments in the world - the Rosslyn Park Sevens.
Over four days, more than 670 teams will battle it out in one of the most respected schools competitions in the country.
There is no question it will be a great event and the perfect opportunity to put players in touch with an O2 Pathfinder. We can then provide every player who is on the move with a proper welcome and introduction into their new team.
This is exactly what Play On is all about, keeping school leavers in the game - so we anticipate a high number of player retention forms returning to us from this event which will, in turn, increase the number of players that we pass on to O2 Pathfinders all over the country.
In the coming year we will target more regional events, as well as the superb O2 Scrum on the Beach series, that have engaged more than 89,000 people with rugby over the last 2 years. If you are running any events for this age group, please let us know about them.
"We are always exploring ways of maximising player recruitment and retention so to be able to get involved with Rosslyn Park Sevens is fundamental to the success of the Play On campaign this season," said campaign manager Peter Bath.
"Our aim is to keep players engaged in the game and then connected with a new club when they leave school and join university. It is simple - but we need players to tell us where they are going and the Play On retention forms make this possible.
"If we can get these forms and pass them onto O2 Pathfinders all the difficulties players face when trying to find a new club are taken away. Being involved with this event will be a significant boost to Play On.
"We are working very hard to make help payers to stay in the game, and Rosslyn Park is the perfect platform to help us do it."
