The Saxons provide an exciting opportunity to gain first hand knowledge on the best young players coming through the ranks of English rugby. Essentially acting as England’s second team, the standard of the squad is high.

Advancing into the England Saxons squad was a logical progression for Stourbridge-born George Robson, who captained England U16 and appeared for the U18 side. He went on to lead the senior England team to victories over both the South African Barbarians South and North teams in June 2012.

Since being named as the LV= Breakthrough Player in March 2012 from a shortlist of six in 2011-12, the career of Jonny May has gathered momentum. He joined the England squad in Johannesburg in June 2012 as a replacement for Harlequins’ George Lowe, who had returned home after a scan showed left ankle ligament damage.

Anthony Allen

Switching from Gloucester to Leicester Tigers in the summer of 2009 has revitalised the career of Anthony Allen, who had won two Test caps at the age of 20. Eight years on, he is enjoying life in the Tigers' lair, having played in four consecutive Premiership finals and become man of the match when the Tigers beat Northampton Saints 37-17 at Twickenham last May.
