A match-winning try on his England Saxons debut for Will Fraser brought about the 14-10 defeat of Ireland Wolfhounds in Galway in January last year and he also started the Scotland A match at Newcastle the following week. He finished the 2011/12 season as a regular choice in the Saracens back row in a breakthrough campaign that saw him make 16 first team appearances. He crossed the opposing line twice in end-of-season matches.
Solid domestic displays prompted his inclusion in the Saxons squad. He previously represented England U16, was a regular member of Saracens Storm during his emergence and was dual registered with Bedford Blues. He also played alongside his three brothers at Fullerians, where his father Andrew was a stalwart.
Educated at Berkhamsted Collegiate and Dulwich College, he spent six months with the Western Province Academy in 2009. He excelled when Saracens beat Munster 19-13 in the Heineken Cup at Vicarage Road in December 2012 but sustained a season-ending shoulder injury in the week leading to the semi-final.
He said: “I would obviously have loved to play in that game. We did try to give it a go for the Premiership semi-final but unfortunately I had to pull out the day before as I ended up tearing my tricep.” Will subsequently underwent surgery.
