A dynamic and powerful hooker and centre, Jeff Williams gave a hint of what was to come with an impressive solo score against Australia in the closing stages of the 2012 Marriott London Sevens on his England debut and first appearance at Twickenham.
He ran in 13 tries in his next nine tournaments, including ones against Spain, Scotland and Canada in the Gold Coast event, another against Australia in Dubai and two in Japan, one against Portugal and another in the 38-0 Bowl final win over Argentina. His latest exploits brought three tries in Glasgow in May this year and four at Twickenham a week later, including a hat-trick against Fiji in his side’s opening match.
Jeff had played for the Hamiltons club in Cape Town and for the Sharks Academy before a spell in France at Federale 1 side Chateaurenard in Provence.
He was in the Hamiltons side that won the 2010 Melrose Sevens and has also figured on the invitation circuit. Jeff joined England’s training camp in early 2012 before being awarded a full-time Sevens contract and qualifies through his English father.
