Being converted from a back row forward to prop in February 2011 has enhanced the career of Alex Lundberg, a member of London Wasps Academy, who is studying for A Levels in French, history, economics and psychology at Hampton School in Middlesex.
Chiswick-born, Alex took up rugby at Wasps Amateurs when he was six and made his England U16 debut off the bench against Italy U17 last year which he says was his most memorable match. He played for England U18 against Leicester U19 this season and was an unused replacement when the side beat France 18-16 at Fylde in February, made his debut off the bench against Scotland at Hawick and then played a similar part in the opening FIRA/AER European Championship victory by 58-8 over Georgia in Madrid in late March.
His junior education was at Durston House in Ealing and his mentors are school coach Zoran Higgins and Chris Lloyd at Wasps Academy. Alex has also represented Middlesex U14, U15 and U16 and London & SE U16.
After playing against Italy U17, he won a starting place last May in the 31-10 victory against Wales.
His other achievements include winning the E R Nicholson Cup at Wasps, a trophy that was presented by John Gasson in memory of Nick Nicholson, who died during his presidency of the club. The cup is awarded annually to a young player who, in the committee’s opinion, has shown outstanding promise on the field.
Alex was also the Richmond Borough U16 discus champion and most admires Lawrence Dallaglio and Andrew Sheridan. Away from rugby, he enjoys swimming and yoga.
