Appearing in the Melrose Sevens alongside experienced Saracens players and being in the winning side is a highlight in Hayden Thompson-Stringer’s embryonic career. He figured in his first A League game for Saracens Storm against Cambridge University and made his England U18 debut in the 44-7 win over Wales at Swansea last March.
Hayden, who was born in Chatham, Kent, recently completed a two-year course in studies for a BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma at Oaklands College and is a member of the Saracens Senior Academy. He appeared for Saracens against the South African Barbarians at HAC in May and previously played for Sittingbourne (2002-09) and Esher (2009-12).
Educated at Hartlip Church of England Primary and Westlands School, Sittingbourne, he benefited from the experience at the club of manager/coach Jay Jenkins, forwards mentor Kevin Ford and Owen Nightingale and Sean Talbot. Manager/coach Mark Jones helped him at Esher and so did Dave Hesketh, Chris Waring and Tim Harper at Oaklands College.
“Since I have been at Saracens, Matt Davis, the academy manager/coach, Richard Hill, strength & conditioner Ben Young and Don Barrell have assisted me,” he said. Hayden has also played at county level for East Kent, Cornwall and Hertfordshire and his favourite players are Steve Borthwick, Toby Faletau and Richie McCaw.
