A product of Wadebridge Camels mini-juniors and colts, Matt Bolwell was part of the England U17 squad that beat Scotland and France last season. He is now a member of the Exeter Chiefs Academy and is taking a diploma in performance and excellence at Truro College and wants to go on to study sports coaching.
Surrey-born Matt was a centre up to U15 level before switching to the back row. He had first picked up a ball at the age of four at Wadebridge, the Cornish club now in South West One West and the one for which celebrity chef Rick Stein played.
Matt was educated at St Breock Primary School and Wadebridge Comprehensive, has played for Exeter Chiefs in the A League and led Truro College to second place the Sanix World Youth Tournament in Japan last year.
His other highlights include being in the Wadebridge side that beat London Irish in the U19 National Cup and playing for England U18 in a warm up match against Northampton Saints this season.
Matt’s mentors at Weybridge were Chris Taylor and Dave Vickery while Marek Churcher and Tom Rawlings have taken on the role at Truro College. Rob Gibson at Exeter Chiefs is also guiding his rugby progress. He finds that playing Xbox is relaxing and more energetically, he won honours in Cornwall athletics and did pentathlon at the South West Championships.
