An 18-month contract with Leeds Carnegie has rewarded Taylor Prell for his efforts in the game since he joined Wharfedale, of National One, at the age of six. He left the club last January. He made the switch earlier this year but in mid-May helped the Dales club to win the Yorkshire Cup for only the second time.
Taylor attended Gargrave Primary School and Aireville Secondary School in Skipton before switching to the sixth form at Giggleswick, where he is studying physical education, design technology and business.
Steeton-born, he made his England U18 debut off the bench in in the 28-6 victory over Scotland at Dalziel RFC in March this year and his six appearances have brought three tries, including two in the FIRA/AER European Championship triumph over Ireland in Poland in April. Taylor has benefited from the guidance of Wharfedale coach Andrew Coates and his latest mentor is Andrew Rock at Leeds. He represented Yorkshire U16 and U17 while his brother Josh plays in the Wharfedale first team.
Taylor’s most memorable match was when he scored three tries for Leeds Carnegie against Worcester Warriors Academy. His career began as an inside centre before he moved to full back. The players he most admires are opportunist pair Ben Foden and Jason Robinson, who have fast feet and the ability to exploit the narrowest of gaps.
