Two tries announced the arrival of Ascot-born Tom Fowlie in the England U18 side against Scotland at Darlington last March and he scored another two against Portugal in the FIRA/AER European Championship later that month. He has been studing at St Paul’s Catholic College in Sunbury on the London Irish AASE course and taking an A-level in PE and a BTEC in Business.
His earlier education was at Eagle House School in Sandhurst and Bearwood College, Wokingham. He first played rugby at the age of nine at Eagle House and joined Camberley when 13, where Gareth Rise “was the first person to develop me as a player and taught me the key skills and inspired me to achieve things.”
Tom's personal plaudits include lifting the Surrey One title with Camberley, being the best attacking player with London Irish AASE in 2011/12 and winning Reading’s Young Sports Personality of the Year award.
His most memorable match was for London Irish AASE in the 23-20 away victory over London Wasps AASE. “It was a great game of rugby,” he said. Tom admires Sonny Bill Williams and Manu Tuilagi – “they are very exciting players to watch. Every time they get the ball you know they can produce a moment of magic or an opportunity out of nothing. That’s how I aspire to play the game.”
