Stepping up to become a full-time academy first team player at London Wasps is a source of rich anticipation for Tom Howe, who made his debut for the senior side against Leicester Tigers in the LV=Cup earlier this year.
He is a student at Shiplake College in Henley, taking A levels in media, art and physical education and hopes to study nutrition at university. Before going to Shiplake, he attended Davenies Primary School in Beaconsfield and RGS High Wycombe.
His first touch of a rugby ball was at the age of five at Beaconsfield RFC, where he played from 2000-10. He captained Shiplake last season, his most memorable moment being the 21-14 away win over Merchant Taylors’, Northwood in November 2012.
Tom, who was born in Milton Keynes, went to Dubai with the England Sevens Development team last autumn and also played for England 16 and U17 before his U18 debut against Scotland at Darlington in March this year. His maiden try for the side was in the final match of the South Africa tour against France in August.
Tom’s ambitions are to play Premiership rugby with Wasps, become a member of the England Elite squad and one day, to represent England Sevens.
He enjoys athletics and power lifting, admires Hosea Gear, Digby Ioane and Chris Ashton and his favourite ground is Twickenham. His mentors have been Sam Beckett, his first team coach and director of rugby at Shiplake, Chris Lloyd at Wasps Academy, Andrew Cartwright at Beaconsfield and England’s John Fletcher.
