An affinity for rugby has long been evident in the Thacker family with Harry following dad Troy, a former Leicester Tigers hooker, to Welford Road. Harry is a member of the academy there and at the age of 17 had already been on the bench for the LV=Cup game against Harlequins at Twickenham Stoop in January 2012.

The following month, he played the full 80 minutes on his England U18 debut when France were beaten 18-16 at Fylde, started against Scotland at Hawick and also wore the No 2 shirt in all three matches in the 2012 FIRA/AER European Championship in Madrid. He scored one of England’s three tries in the 25-13 win over Ireland in the final.

He is now in his first year in the Tigers’ first team squad after three years in the club’s academy. His first team debut was against Saracens in the LV= Cup last year and his initial starting debut was against the Ospreys this year. He is on loan to Greene King IPA Championship club Nottingham and made his England U20 debut against France in February this year, scoring two tries in the 67-7 win over Wales when making his third appearance the following month. He had to withdraw from the England squad for the subsequent IRB Junior World Championship.

Harry, who captained the Tigers Academy U18 side, has studied design technology, mathematics and PE at Leicester Grammar School in the city when he was born. He has represented Leicestershire U12-U16, Midlands U16 and England U16 and says his most memorable match at that level was the 7-5 defeat by Scotland U17 in April 2010.

He began playing when he was five and was a fly half until the age of 15. His role model is Harry Ellis, the former Leicester and England scrum half, and his other top players are Neil Back and Schalk Brits.

Harry said: “Inside the game I want to make the most of every opportunity I get but most of all enjoy it and have no regrets when looking back. Away from rugby, I would like to do something to help other people.”
