After playing football from the age of six to 13 when he had a trial for Birmingham City, Joshua Watkins joined Worcester Warriors where he is now an academy member and also makes appearances for Bromsgrove RFC’s first team.
He attended Nunnery Wood High School and Bromsgrove School where he took a BTEC in Sport and did A Level media studies. Having represented Worcestershire U16 and U18, and North Midlands U18, he became an England U18 squad member and made seven starts and scored a try in his final appearance against South Africa at the University of Western Cape last August.
His debut was in the 18-16 win over France at Fylde in February last year that was followed by the Scotland game at Hawick. Soon afterwards he appeared against Wales and Ireland in the FIRA/AER European Championship.
Josh has competed for Worcestershire at athletics, toured Paris with the Warriors in 2009 and has two brothers involved in sport. Ryan played for Stourbridge in National One and is now a PE teacher and rugby coach and his other brother Dale was a semi-professional footballer.
PE teacher Wyn Griffiths was his mentor at Nunnery Wood, Paul Mullan and Tony Windo guided him at Bromsgrove School and Andrew Stanley and Gary Meechan are his coaches at the Worcester Academy.
He figured frequently at centre and full back before switching to the wing.
Joshua most enjoys playing at Worcester Warriors' Sixways ground and admires Australians James O’Connor and Quade Cooper and All Black Israel Dagg.
