Profile

Fitness is a way of life for Georgina Gulliver (née Rozario), who has worked as a gym manager for the Working Health Company and academy coach at Truro College.  She is now training to become a theatre scrub nurse for BMI Healthcare in Coventry.

Educated at St John’s Primary and St Gregory’s Secondary School, she moved on to the Oldfield Rugby Academy Sixth Form and attained a BA (Hons) in Sport & Exercise Science and Coaching at University College Plymouth St Mark and St John’s, known as Marjons. She began playing when 13 at Avon RFC near Bath, where she was born, and has benefited from skills coaches Susie Appleby and Ricky Pellow. Georgina initially represented England U18, U19, Students, Academy and A team.

Her international debut was against the USA in December 2007 before making her first start in the 29-13 victory over Ireland. Now with Lichfield, she previously appeared for Avon Ladies (2001-06), Plymouth Albion (2006-08) and Bristol (2008-09) and has won the European Championships and Six Nations with England. Last season, she played off the bench for Natasha Hunt in the opening match against Scotland that brought 47 points without reply.

Georgina was used in a similar capacity after half-time in place of La Toya Mason against Italy at Recco, Wales at Twickenham and France in Paris. She started all three matches in the FIRA-AER European Cup last May when the Red Roses beat Spain 61-0 with an 11-try performance, Italy 32-8 and France 29-25 in the final, also at Rovereto.

She won her 30th cap when England beat the Black Ferns 16-13 at Esher last November and was vice-captain when the side defeated Scotland 76-0 at Esher in early February this year. Three other appearances off the bench have followed and in the ‘run on’ side against Italy at Esher.

Georgina’s most memorable match was the victory over New Zealand at Twickenham in 2009 and her favourite player, as befits a scrum half, is Dimitri Yachvili. Surfing, horse riding and cookery are her hobbies and Twickenham Stadium and the Recreation Ground, Bath vie for the honour of being her top venue.

In the summer of 2011, she married Ben Gulliver, a lock forward, whose own playing career spans a decade with Coventry, Plymouth Albion, Cornish Pirates, Leicester Tigers, Worcester Warriors and now Bedford Blues.
