Abbie hails from the rugby hot bed that is the West Country so it was no surprise to discover that she first picked up a rugby ball at the age of six when at Cullumpton Rugby Club in Devon. She remembers, “I was bored of watching my brother play every Sunday and wanted to give it a go.”
She moved from Cullumpton RFC to Exeter Saracens and now struts her stuff at Worcester. But it's Hartpury College where she really cut her teeth under the tutelage of current England Women Elite player Danielle Waterman. She mixes her rugby at Worcester with an Advanced Apprenticeship in Sporting Excellence (AASE) at Hartpury College where she also plays, at her favourite ground, for the College.
Abbie tends to run the show from fly-half but has also played in the centres over the last couple of seasons. She could have gone on to represent England at netball or basketball having represented both for the South West but, thankfully for us, she's chosen rugby thanks to the influence of her mum and dad, who played and continues to coach rugby.
Educated at Silverton primary School, Silverton and Clyst Vale Community College in Exeter, Abbie says her heroes in sport are Jonny Wilkinson and Usain Bolt. And if she could have dinner with any three people she'd have the world cup winning fly-half along with the Queen and her grandad Connett.
