Catherine came to the game relatively late at the age of 14 but such are her talents, by 15 she was playing for Rochford Hundered Under 18s. A prop, Catherine credits her Geography teacher, who doubled up as her first coach, and her dad as the biggest influences on getting her into the game.
When it comes to her mentor, well you don't get many better than Maggie Alphonsi, a current England Elite player and former Saracens team mate. After Rochford Hundered, Catherine played a couple of seasons with Saracens before switching this year to Lichfield where she combines her rugby with studying English at Loughborough University.
Catherine has already played six times for England Under 20s and, so far, nothing tops her first game in the shirt: “My first match against France away in Paris, the atmosphere was explosive and exciting because the crowd was so large, singing the national anthem gave the biggest adrenalin rush,” she remembers.
Sport is very much part of the family. Father, Hywel played rugby and her sister had Essex swimming qualification times. Catherine's own talents have seen her captain her divisional London and South East side two years running.
London and Essex have played a big part in Catherine's life – she was schooled at Wentworth Primary School and Plume School - so there's no surprise she's a big supporter of Saracens men - and her favourite ground is Twickenham - “ its my ultimate dream to player there,” she told us. It’s not a dream which is out of the question, either.
