Rugby hardly featured in the early days of Emma Harbage’s life. It was all about gymnastics, instead. For 11 years, Emma competed at County, Regional and National Level in that discipline and she puts her gymnastic exploits down as the reason to her sporting success. She was also pretty handy at athletics, again competing at County and Regional level.
Thankfully, though, we've got her family and especially her brother to thank for introducing her to rugby. Lichfield is her club, where her dad also coached for years, but she also had a stint in the West Country while at Hartpury College studying an Advanced Apprenticeship in Sporting Excellence and it's there where she met Danielle Waterman, a current England Elite Squad member, who she credits as her biggest mentor in the game. Danielle, along with Lichfield and England player, Emily Scarratt also gets the nod for Emma's most admired players in the game but outside of rugby, no one gets more respect from Emma than Jessica Ennis.
Not only does Emma carve up the XVs form of the game but also the Sevens side of things. Being a winger, she's well suited to the Sevens version of the game and, whilst at Hartpury, managed to pick up a bronze medal at the UK School Games in 2012 with England Midlands.
Having been schooled at Chase Terrace Primary School, the Technology College and Hartpury, Emma now finds herself studying Sports and Exercise Science and Sports Nutrition at Leeds Trinity University. She's a big Leicester Tigers fan and loves a good shopping trip. Which would be one of the reasons why, if she could have any job in the world, it would be a WAG. Is that actually a job?
