CPD - Mini Goal Setting
To reach a desired outcome with accuracy requires goal setting, a method of planning, committing and delivering actions rather than wishes. The process of achieving a long term goal is to break it down into medium and short term goals that lead to the eventual outcome required. These goals help to monitor progress, to motivate and to identify a range of factors that motivate individuals through goal setting.

CPD - Mini Understanding the Kicking Game
The mechanics of the kick can be introduced by the coach using limited or no pressure to ensure that players understand the specific key factors. With practise, pressure should then be applied to provide a more game like environment. If coaches discourage kicking at junior levels, players are likely to be limited tactically when they play at adult level. It is just as important that all children are encouraged to kick, as it is that they experience all playing positions
A player may kick the ball for no reason but by working in a game format, players have multiple opportunities to explore tactically and technically through discovery learning. The coach can help this learning by facilitating and conditioning the activity rather than by directive coaching. Kicking lends itself to a number of varied game related activities both enjoyable and educational, some of which are covered during the kicking module.

CPD - Mini The Lineout Game
The mini-rugby lineout is frequently limited by a lack of understanding and technique, consisting of players standing side by side, arms stretched to the sky. From this starting position a player has difficulty in jumping, their hands are usually wide apart and catching is unlikely. A basic principle for the lineout is to catch the ball where opposing players are not, so movement is a vital ingredient.

CPD - Mini Maul and Ruck
The Maul and Ruck module focuses on players’ lack of game understanding at the break down, partly due to the conditioning embedded by the traditional drill format. The drill is an excellent tool for developing technique in isolation but of little value for the important issue of game understanding.

CPD - Mini Continuity in Attack
Coaches have a huge responsibility when working with players in their formative years. Traditionally, players have been subjected to elaborate drills intended to develop technical skill, but young players need to understand the game before skill development coaching improves them.
