Getting up close & personal with NYC member Dan Edson
What made you want to be part of the NYC?
I took part in the 2009 Young Leader’s camp which was a fantastic opportunity and really inspired me to get involved with even more rugby. I felt I could offer a wide range of youth opinions. I am passionate about giving young people the chance to take part in sport, especially rugby as I believe it offers so much more than just fitness.
What do you want to achieve by being involved?
I want to show young people that rugby can offer so much. Hopefully by the time I am 30, rugby will be the English national sport, replacing football.
How are you involved in rugby?
I have been a player at numerous levels including club and school for 15 years. Since the age of 15, I have taken on other roles within my club, school and CB. I have been coaching for the past five years and have progressed through working with different people and teams. I currently coach the Under 16s and Ladies 1st XV at my local club and I am also the lead rugby coach at a local secondary school. I also referee both senior junior matches.
What do you do for fun?
Sport is a great part of my life, not just rugby; I also enjoy cricket and beach volleyball. I also like going out with my friends; throwing a few shapes on a Friday is a must.
