Yugoslav Rugby – the Story of a Forgotten Union

On October 10, 1991, the Yugoslav Rugby Federation was disbanded while the national team was on tour in Wales.

With the country disintegrating under the strain of civil war, the future looked bleak for the game of rugby union in that part of Eastern Europe.

Rugby in Yugoslavia dates back to 1919 and parts of its history are unique in the archives of both League and Union.

The Museum of Rugby launched a special exhibition entitled 'Yugoslav Rugby – the Story of a Forgotten Union' on October 10, 2001 to commemorate the tenth anniversary of the collapse of the old union and celebrate the re-birth that followed.
