Mike Gibson's Ireland Jersey
Mike Gibson is one of Ireland’s all time rugby greats. This month’s featured item is his number 12 jersey from the 1970s. Gibson earned a record 69 international caps during his career with Ireland between 1964 and 1979 – a record that was not overtaken until 2005. He also toured five times with the British Lions and during the 1968 tour of South Africa became the first ever replacement in international rugby history following Barry John’s injury in the match at Pretoria. Gibson’s jersey has been acquired by the museum only recently and can be seen in our new exhibition Treasures of the Collection which runs until 9th October.
