The show-down on October 23rd at Eden Park was the 51st meeting between these two teams, and the sixth during a World Cup.
This ticket dates from the match on New Year’s Day 1906, when the two teams played at Parc des Princes, Paris. Not only was this the first match between New Zealand and France, but it was also France’s first international test match. This match was part of the 1905 New Zealand ‘Originals’ Tour to the British Isles and France, where they won 34 of the 35 games they played. It was also on this tour that the team became nicknamed the ‘All Blacks’. The game in Paris was played in front of a crowd of approximately 8-10,000 and saw the touring side win 38-8. The All Blacks currently have a 74.5% success rate against Les Bleus.
