1997 Hong Kong Sevens Women's Match Ball
Women have been playing in local Rugby Sevens tournaments for as long as they have been playing the fifteen a-side game.
However, this tournament was the first ever Sevens competition for women on a world level.
It was also the first time that the International Rugby Board gave their official recognition to an international women's rugby competition.
The following year they would also recognise the Women's Rugby World Cup tournament for the first time.
