Jean-Pierre Rives made his debut for France against England at Twickenham.
France won a high-scoring match 27-20 and although he didn’t score, the blond bombshell made enough of a nuisance of himself to suggest what was to follow – an outstanding 59-cap career, during which he led his country on 34 occasions (then a world record) winning the Grand Slam in 1981.
He is now a sculptor of some reknown, based in Paris.
