Wings Mark Cueto and Chris Ashton scored hat tricks as England romped to a 10-try victory over Romania at the Otago Stadium in Dunedin to remain top of Pool B.

Sale Sharks wing Cueto celebrated his 54th cap with a treble in 22 first-half minutes, collecting neat assists Chris Ashton, centre Mike Tindall and flanker Tom Croft.

Fellow wing Ashton was soon in on the act too, bagging his 12th and 13th Test tries – plundered in just 16 Tests – before the break.

Fly half Jonny Wilkinson kicked three conversions and a penalty, with Romania No.10 Marin Danut Dumbrava replying with a three-pointer of his own before the break to make the half-time score 34-3.

Into the second half and Ben Youngs scored within 30 seconds of the restart, breaking from deep and exchanging passes with Leicester Tigers colleague Manu Tuilagi to ease over in the corner.

The tries kept flowing with full back Ben Foden latching onto Tuilagi’s second straight assist soon after; Leicester centre Tuilagi bashing through on the hour mark and Croft getting his first of the tournament.

Ashton was not to be denied his treble and burst through to add his third, and England's 10th, as the clock ran down. Toby Flood, who replaced Jonny Wilkinson at half time, converted four of the five second-half tries.
